It’s only a matter of time before we all have to “RESET”. Relax, unwind, and discover your true self with Zaia’s latest EP.
Zaia introduces the album with the smooth and sultry track “COUNSELING”, a face-to-face confrontation with the people dipped in suits and ties who get paid to “help fix” the detrimental issues that we can’t even figure out on our own. Zaia explains how it is so easy for “counselors” to move on with their lives because they only have to deal with major issues for the time that we’re with them. It is an ongoing battle with us, while it is simply another check to them. At this point, Zaia would much rather roll a blunt.
It then moves on to “BLUE”, Zaia’s current state of emotion, and a reflection of his loneliness and vulnerability. It is presented in a very atmospheric way, taking you on a trans through fast-paced and high rise emotions.
The following track “WASTE MY TIME” is my favorite track from this EP. It has such the seventies influenced groove with a smooth flow and cadence. It’s a track eluded brimming with confidence and bluntness within every word. “WASTE MY TIME” is a warning to cut out all of the bullshit— be straightforward with your intentions and quit beating around the bush. Zaia would much rather remain solo than to be caught up in another “situation-ship” with a temporary thrill. It’s no longer worth the time or effort.
The mood totally breaks down with “ON THE RUN”. A beautiful track filled with imagination and soul. It’s a track on escapism, seeking distraction from an unpleasant reality. One may reach a point in their lives where they have realized that their emotional baggage may have cost them more than they could ever bear, so instead of unpacking everything and analyzing each article for what it actually is, they would rather pack it all up and run far away. Little do they know, the weight of their baggage would only slow them down along the journey. Alas, it may be good to get away for a while.
It ends with “GRACE”, a beautiful “end-of-summer” vibe in all of its glory. This track illustrates living in the moment of now and hoping that things will play out the way they’re supposed to. Enjoy the time that you have at the moment and don’t worry about the “what-ifs” too much. In the end, with a little bit of hope, everything will figure itself out, right?
Collectively, this was an alluring piece of work. Zaia’s “RESET” beautifully displayed the trials and tribulations of what it’s like to live inside of your head as a lover, a friend, an artist, and living as “you” individually. It is draining and is only natural to feel to need a reset button to start a clean path and live in the ways that you want to. I have fallen in love with this EP, and I highly recommend this artist to anyone who is looking for new music to listen to.
